Many dream of having long, thick hair, but it never seems to produce past their shoulders!
Hair grows about 1.25 cm per month. So, even if it doesn’t grow, it actually falls out at the end. Here are some practical ways to promote hair growth.
1. Take supplements to help your hair grow in healthy
Bamboo silica is a natural supplement (available at most vitamin stores) that helps your hair grow stronger and thicker. It’s also wonderful for your skin and nails. Since hair only grows an average of 1.25 cm per month, you’ll need to use bamboo silica for at least a few months before seeing results. It comes in a variety of gels or capsules. I prefer to buy the packets I can carry in my purse conveniently. My favourite is Silicea Direct Mixed Berry Flavour.
2. Get regular hair trims
It may seem like cutting your hair is the opposite of letting it grow, but it helps strengthen it and prevent breakage. Make sure you only cut less than what has grown in that time. For example, if it’s been two months since your last haircut, ensure you only cut half an inch or less. Otherwise, you’ll continue to reduce growth. Ensure your stylist keeps your ends trimmed and uses scissors (instead of a razor) to keep them as strong and healthy as possible.
3. Use a protein hair mask
There’s a difference between a protein hair mask and a moisturising one. Protein masks strengthen hair by creating layers of keratin on the hair fibre, while a moisturising mask plumps the cuticle and gives hair a softer feel and look. Using moisturising and protein hair treatments is great for your hair, but if you have long hair, you should use protein treatments weekly to keep your ends strong and prevent breakage.
